Chipotle
Okay, so my sister convinced me to go to Chipotle for free burritos last night. She says that they are the best burritos she has ever had. So, I agree, I'm always game for food, especially when it is free.
So, after she gets off of work (5:00) we head over to Chipotle by Westland shopping center. We are at the light at Central and Secor and we see the line wrap around the building and across the parking lot. We get in line. Crazy, I know, but we do. I'm not expecting this long of a line, so I am still in my work clothes and my winter coat. No hat. No gloves.
Finally, a girl that works there comes out and tells us that from where we are standing, it takes an hour to get into the building and anothe 15 minutes to get your food once you are in the building. We are surrounded by funny people, so that makes the time go quicker. People that work there come out with hot chocolate in a Ghostbusters looking thing, equipped with a long hose that allows the hot chocolate to come out from a plastic tub on their back down to a tap. It was a very cool contraption and a great idea. So, not only do we get free burritos, we get free hot chocolate.
The people that work there also throw things from the roof, t-shirts and these things that look like mini-burritos, they made it fun. It really didn't seem like we were standing out there for an hour. About 45 minutes into this standstill, my toes felt like they were going to fall off. Luckily there was a salon next to Chipotle and we made it close enough that we could see the door, so my sister forced me to go into the salon to save my toes. The nice people that surrounded us allowed me to go inside to warm up for a few minutes.
When we finally get to the door, it takes 10 minutes to get from 5 feet in front of the door to inside the restaurant. But, once we were inside, it only took about 10 minutes to get our food. They were really fast!
One person put the shell in this warmer type thing and asked you what kind you wanted, he then yelled it out to the person next to him who put the rice, beans, and meat in the shell. The next person put the salsa and the sour cream on it, the next person put the guacamole and the lettuce on it, the next person wrapped it up, the next person put it in a bag or on a tray, and the final person kept track on the register. Then after you get your burrito, there were three people working at the fountain handing out pop. It was quite the assembly line. There was even a manager walking around to make sure you were enjoying your burrito.
I have never been there before, so I didn't know quite what to expect. I'm thinking how can a burrito be so good that 600 people are standing in line.... Well, if I had known what I was in for, I WOULD NOT have stood in line for an hour and 15 minutes. Maybe it was the fact that there were so many people I was expecting something so delicious I would never want to eat another thing in my life, I don't know, but really I wasn't that impressed.
I might go once or twice, but I would rather go to Jimmy John's! I really didn't think it was worth the $7.00 they'll charge you. It was good, but not great. Although that's just my opinion, apparently thousands of other Toledoans disagree with me.
Once we got inside the doorway, there was a guy there making sure we didn't block the exit. I was talking to him and he said that they had an hour to and hour and a half long line all day, from 10:45 until at least 6:00 when we got to the door. I tried to find out how many burritos they gave away yesterday, but I wasn't able to find the information. Maybe I'll keep searching soon, that'll make my day go by quicker.
Well, I think that's all I have to say about Chipotle. You could try it if you like, but don't wait in line for an hour, it's not worth that much freezing!!
