Chipotle

Okay, so my sister convinced me to go to Chipotle for free burritos last night. She says that they are the best burritos she has ever had. So, I agree, I'm always game for food, especially when it is free.

So, after she gets off of work (5:00) we head over to Chipotle by Westland shopping center. We are at the light at Central and Secor and we see the line wrap around the building and across the parking lot. We get in line. Crazy, I know, but we do. I'm not expecting this long of a line, so I am still in my work clothes and my winter coat. No hat. No gloves.

Finally, a girl that works there comes out and tells us that from where we are standing, it takes an hour to get into the building and anothe 15 minutes to get your food once you are in the building. We are surrounded by funny people, so that makes the time go quicker. People that work there come out with hot chocolate in a Ghostbusters looking thing, equipped with a long hose that allows the hot chocolate to come out from a plastic tub on their back down to a tap. It was a very cool contraption and a great idea. So, not only do we get free burritos, we get free hot chocolate.

The people that work there also throw things from the roof, t-shirts and these things that look like mini-burritos, they made it fun. It really didn't seem like we were standing out there for an hour. About 45 minutes into this standstill, my toes felt like they were going to fall off. Luckily there was a salon next to Chipotle and we made it close enough that we could see the door, so my sister forced me to go into the salon to save my toes. The nice people that surrounded us allowed me to go inside to warm up for a few minutes.

When we finally get to the door, it takes 10 minutes to get from 5 feet in front of the door to inside the restaurant. But, once we were inside, it only took about 10 minutes to get our food. They were really fast!

One person put the shell in this warmer type thing and asked you what kind you wanted, he then yelled it out to the person next to him who put the rice, beans, and meat in the shell. The next person put the salsa and the sour cream on it, the next person put the guacamole and the lettuce on it, the next person wrapped it up, the next person put it in a bag or on a tray, and the final person kept track on the register. Then after you get your burrito, there were three people working at the fountain handing out pop. It was quite the assembly line. There was even a manager walking around to make sure you were enjoying your burrito.

I have never been there before, so I didn't know quite what to expect. I'm thinking how can a burrito be so good that 600 people are standing in line.... Well, if I had known what I was in for, I WOULD NOT have stood in line for an hour and 15 minutes. Maybe it was the fact that there were so many people I was expecting something so delicious I would never want to eat another thing in my life, I don't know, but really I wasn't that impressed.

I might go once or twice, but I would rather go to Jimmy John's! I really didn't think it was worth the $7.00 they'll charge you. It was good, but not great. Although that's just my opinion, apparently thousands of other Toledoans disagree with me.

Once we got inside the doorway, there was a guy there making sure we didn't block the exit. I was talking to him and he said that they had an hour to and hour and a half long line all day, from 10:45 until at least 6:00 when we got to the door. I tried to find out how many burritos they gave away yesterday, but I wasn't able to find the information. Maybe I'll keep searching soon, that'll make my day go by quicker.

Well, I think that's all I have to say about Chipotle. You could try it if you like, but don't wait in line for an hour, it's not worth that much freezing!!

Santa lives....In Toledo

Okay, so the past two mornings something completely unexplainable is happening in my apartment complex. Sunday morning I woke up to what sounded like a party on top of me, normal maybe, but not when you live on the TOP FLOOR. Then, this morning, I walked outside at 7:30 to de-ice my car and the only thing I could hear was jingle bells.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is that Santa and his Reindeer are on my roof!! That would explain the party on my roof and the sleigh bells in the yard. I can't think of any other explanation.

It is so exciting, Santa Claus is living in Toledo, maybe he's stuck, I don't know, but either way he is here. Maybe I should put some food up there for them so they don't starve. I wouldn't want to be blamed for children not having a Christmas next year because no one bothered to feed Santa and his Reindeer while they were stuck on an apartment building in Toledo.

Okay, enough fantasizing, now onto reality. Last night, my sister and I came back from a visit at our parents house to find that we could not get into our door. The lock wasn't stuck or anything, the door just would not open. So, we had to call the emergency maintenance guy and he came to fix it. We waited in the hallway with 2 laundry baskets and a few plastic bags full of wet laundry, plus my sister's bookbag. We were waiting for 20 minutes when he finally comes. He buzzed the door for us to let him in (hello, the reason we called you was because we could NOT get into the apartment, how are we supposed to buzz you up?) Anyway, he asks us for the keys, we try to explain to him that the door is unlocked, that it looks like the wood has split in the frame. So he fools around with it for a minute and realizes that we are correct. So, he simply rams the door with his body. The lock flies out of the door and there are wood splinters all over the floor. He is supposed to come over today to re-panel the door. By the looks of things to me, he is going to have to replace the entire door, I don't see how a new panel will allow the lock to be put back into place. Who knows, all I know right now is that it's a good thing we have a deadbolt because without the deadbolt being locked, we cannot even shut our door. That's nice, real nice. So, soon we will have a new door, a new refrigerator, and a new dish washer. If we keep this up, we'll have a brand new apartment in no time at all! I'm sure glad the maintenance guy is so nice, or else he might hate us by now. We've been there for 3 weeks and he's been over to fix things at least a half dozen times!

Other than the Santa Claus excitement and our door situation, nothing really interesting happened this weekend. My sister entered a karaoke contest at Bootleggers and made it to the next round, so if you don't have anything to do next Friday, come to Boots to cheer (and vote) her to the next round!

Have a great and productive week!

Strange Dreams

So last night I had the weirdest dreams. The first one, Mr. Savel and I were sitting in the middle of an aisle at Busch's (actually sitting) talking about a reading class. He was the teacher of this reading class, and I was taking it. He told me I had to read a book a day and take a test on each book I read, so I decided to skip 6th hour band to go to the registrar and drop the class. This dream went on for awhile, we were talking in Busch's for quite some time, then Bethany Bondy came into the store and Mr. Savel told me that the only reason he was a teacher was because of her. Oh yeah, I was also in charge of making sure the rugs by the doors were straight after school. I don't know where that came from.... Maybe I shouldn't have spaghetti anymore??

The second weird dream of the evening came when I was the left fielder for the New York Yankees. I was actually playing in the outfield with The Green Monster, Fenway Park with Derek (Jeter, but we are on a first name basis). I got a really good hit, I stole third base, I made a great catch in the outfield, and I threw someone out at the plate. If only dreams could come true, this would be at the top of that list. I was so nervous in my debut as a Yankee though, I went into the wrong dugout and didn't realize it for awhile. Matt Pitock was also on the team. We didn't know where we were in the lineup so we had to wait for the announcer to say our names because we were scared of Joe Torre. We beat The Red Sox, so we celebrated after the game! There were other women on the team as well, no one expected us to win, but we did!! This is when my alarm went off so I don't know what happened next.

Today, as I was sitting at my desk doing crossword puzzles online, all the crossword puzzles had baseball clues in them, one answer was the YANKEES, maybe this is an omen, I think I need to quit my job and try out for the Yankees, Spring Training is just around the corner. Do you think I'll look good in pinstripes? I think I better start getting in shape, I can't even walk of four flights of stairs to my office without sweating and shortness of breath! You may want my autograph now, soon I'll be famous!

Happy New Year

Well, I hope everyone had a happy and safe new year celebration. Mine was alright, I decided to stay home and watch movies. I had really bad pizza, I watched two really bad movies, and two really good movies, and I went to bed just after midnight. I don't have a remote for my DVD player anymore, so I had to pick his side on the Break-up. I don't know if the two sides were different at all, but I didn't like the movie. I thought it was supposed to be funny, I didn't laugh once. Same thing with Wedding Crashers, I didn't find the humor. Which really made me mad, because I wanted to laugh!! Plus, Wedding Crashers kept skipping, I didn't like that at all. But, then I finished the night off with 61, a great movie! And half of Rudy before I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore.

On New Year's Day, I went home to Carleton. I did some laundry at mom and dad's house. I'm so glad they let me use their washer and dryer, I hate spending $2.50 to do a load of laundry. I went to my grandma's house to have the traditional dinner, pork and sauerkraut for a year full of prosperity and good health. I hope everyone's first visitor of the new year was a dark haired man (Gram says that brings good luck- and Gram is always right). After dinner, I watched parts of the Michigan game, they lost, go figure, Llyod Carr cannot win a bowl game, especially one on the West Coast. I think he needs to lose his job. He cannot beat OSU and he cannot win a bowl game, the two things Michigan takes the most pride in. My cousin from Virginia is up for the week, she has four cute little boys, they definitely bring life into the house!

Now, we will back track to Friday! I got off work at 11:45, and Andrea and three of her very nice friends (Dave, Matt and Tommy) were at our old apartment packing up vehicles, we had everything moved into the new place in about 2 hours except for the food and our clothes, it was very nice. They didn't complain once even though we now live on the third floor. I was very impressed with their work ethic, they only took one union break and that was because we made them. Then, we bought everyone Marco's for helping us, Matt is a firefighter so we got 5 subs and 5 sodas for $15, that was pretty exciting!

Andrea and I then went to Home Depot to buy shelving paper and light bulbs, $79 later, we came back home to unpack and organize, my favorite part of moving. Mom and Dad came down with the futon later on in the evening, a story all in itself. Andrea's friend Dave came back to help Dad up the stairs since he raised two wimpy girls! We finally got to bed around midnight, but the house was not done. We just had to put together the kitchen and do a little bit of rearranging.

On Saturday, my sister left for Cleveland. I was half way to work when I got a phone call, she left her keys in her purse on the chair in our apartment, so I had to get off the expressway on Alexis road, drive all the way back to the apartment to let her in the house and then go back to work. I was 20 minutes late, my sister is sometimes so irresponsible! But, I still love her. Saturday night, I decided I needed a break from all the moving excitement, so after work I watched movies. They were much better than my choices for New Year's Eve. I watched Glory Road and some other movie I cannot think of right now. You may be wondering why so many movies when I haven't watched a movie in a long time. Well, I would have loved to have been able to watch the bowl games, but I don't have cable! It is killing me, but we get it today between 10 and 12, which means between 10 and 5, so hopefully I will get to watch Law and Order and Without a Trace tonight.

Sunday, I finished the apartment, and if I do say so myself it looks pretty damn good! I am very happy with the results, now all we need to do is get some pictures and shelves on our walls and it will be complete.

Well, that was my busy weekend, I hope everyone else had a productive weekend. I also hope that you have a better 2007!
